Reflecting...

first of all, happie mooncake festival to everyone... i'm superbly proud to be one of the members of 59-Sixty Communication!!! arghh... our event is getting nearer and nearer... super 'gan cheong'! at first, it was such rocky start... from confusion of beneficiary, to searching for sponsors then to getting publicity...

while i was chopping garlic for tomorrow's charity food sale (love garlic breads!), i was reflecting on every single thing we've been doing through out this whole thing... argh... it was super stressful but it's definitely fun and enjoyable. learnt alot from mr. hardip and fellow classmates...

thinking about it, it was a spontaneous idea to just go visit fly fm website and ask a favor from them, to fix our problem by joining us for our charity event and have fun with us. never thought it'd be entertained, but they did!!! that's unbelievable!!! as much as i hate people giving me wake up call on my cell, nadia from fly fm was an exception :) calling to inform me that they're gonna try help us fix our problem? wow! that's super cool! for once, my spontaneous action is rewarded! hahaha... right after corporate comm class, phat fabes called!!! it's a shame that i didn't get to hear ben's voice, but it's still cool...

although we're still struggling searching for a sponsor for make up products, i'm sure we'll get through this if we pray hard enough and work hard enough.

ok... enough of talking, gotta get the garlic into the fridge now! continue with martha stewart show now. haha...

again, thanks nay nay, phat fabes and roshan! you guys are the best. thanks for your support!

A Visit With Hands Full of Hope and Dreams

**Attention!!! Talented kids spotted!**

Kary, Pauline,Nicole, Christine, Seik Yauh and Shieng Yee have visited the home. This is the third time that we are visiting the home (some of us the second), amazingly, the kids actually remembered most of our names. Of course, the most popular one is Seik Yauh who is known as the “Boss”.

Most of the younger kids were at home when we arrived, the older ones were all out then when we visited them. The kids were really helpful when we tried to gather them in a circle to tell them that we are going to hold a drawing competition for them.

In surprise, most of them can draw very well, besides that, most of the drawings are fully covered with hearts and houses. Even though these are simple and easy things to draw, but somewhat it indicate many things that are occurring in their life.

Some of them will draw specific drawings just dedicated to you just because you paid attention to them. They will also try very hard to remember your name even write them down just because they are afraid that they will forget your name the next time you visit them. They are kids whom are very much seeking for our love and warmth.

Some are asked why they drew cars and houses; some have answered, “I want to be F1 driver in future”. Some asked us to help them to draw houses with its interior design with their very own family inside sitting together in the dining table. All these drawings have spoken for them, their hope and desires in their heart, which are mostly ignored by others.

As a return, we have bought many sweets, jelly, mamee, and chocolates as prizes for them who have won in the competition. We made everyone as winner as we did not want any of them to feel left out.

Everyone in this world needs attentions, love, warmth and sincerity. Sometimes sharing some of ours towards those who are in need may make everyone happier, including us. In this visit, we not only get to spend time to get to know them better, but also, we have gathered dreams and hope which are reflected in the drawings….

Mooncake Festival

The Mooncake Festival, known as Mid-Autumn Festival, falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month which is Sept 24 this year. Mooncake Festival is something close to my heart. It reminds me of my childhood memories where my mum brought me to Restoran Overseas to get me a 'piggy biscuit'. Even now, i ask my mum to buy for me because it just taste different. I don't even know how to describe the taste. This time over, i want to share my love towards the children, so i suggested my team to organized a small lantern festival at Precious Children Home. It is worth doing all this thing because it light up the children's life.

Our visit

Hello, our group (Khairun, Joan, Pojoo, Nicole Yap and Monasha) would like to share with all of you our group wonderful experience visiting Precious Children Home on last Friday dated 24.8.07.

On that day, we met at the college then we all went to Precious Children Home in one car. Upon our arrival, we saw the children sitting down in the hall with Evelyn sharing their experiences after their camp at Port Dickson. We made a round circle at the house compound and began to introduce ourselves. We played a game that encourages each one of us to come out with a nick name that means something to them before our initial name. “Kreatif Khairun, Miss Malaysia Monasha, Jom Joan, Pinky Pojoo and Naughty Nicole” given as examples is a game to get to know the children better and to understand their world. Having themselves named Dragon Daniel, Punk Paul, Swordman Sean and so on allowed us to understand their world and their likes and dislikes. Everyone was enjoying and laughing at their own comfort of time, sorting out the perfect name that would be easier to pronounce and remember.

After playing the Name Game, we gave out some food such as snacks, chocolates and sweets to the children. The children were very delighted to receive snacks from us. While sharing food and snacks, we were all playing, chatting and teasing each other with our names. Other than that, we also brought some used shoes and sandals for the children. It was very much like a wake up call for each one of us in the group to see the expression on their faces when they received those shoes. They wore it around, running and showing it to each other proudly when they got a pair of ‘new shoes’. It made us realize on how we tend to take all these little things for granted and throwing away all our ‘unwanted’ goods away. It made us remember the saying that goes something like “one person’s extra is a thousand’s necessity”.

As the children were enjoying munching all kinds of food in their mouth, we started to divide the children into 5 teams which consist of 3 - 4 group members. Each group was spearheaded by us. All the children were very active and nice to handle. Each group was given a thick cardboard, markers, color pencils, ribbons, and fancy punchers and so on. They were asked to unleashed their creativity and design our names on a thick cardboard. It was very interesting to see a big bunch of playful children, putting all their attention and focusing on making a name card for the 5 of us.

Along the way, came James the 4 years old boy who loves to hang out with Khairun and her group as he insisted on her to accompany him anywhere he goes. Khairun vividly remember him saying ‘Che Che come with me lah, che che come and color with me’.

At first, Joan thought we would be using up probably only 15 minutes for the children to make the name cards, thinking that they are only children and probably won’t be long before they get bored and stop participating in designing the name cards. However, Joan was surprised with her team effort that ended up being one of the last team to finish the name card. From sketching, to planning, to delegating jobs, to coloring, to even the extend of collage… Joan’s team definitely exceeded her expectations.

We were all very happy with our group as they made us very wonderful name cards. It wasn’t just us and them. It was us in their creation… We were all very happy and proud with all these wonderful creation done by these talented children. At the end of the day, as they have completed designing Khairun name on the cardboard, they parade her name to the others in the group and shouted ‘Kayrun, Kayrun, Kayrun’. Joan’s group was participating very well and it was very touching to see how the older ones work together with the younger ones to make her name card work. Every group wanted their leader to have the nicest name tags. We all sensed that we are bonded along the process of working together. That was the spirit that we wanted in each and every group.

At about 3.40 p.m., we all packed our things and clean up the place with all the children. We were so close to each other by the end of the day until the children kept asking us to come back next week or the next day and to plan more activities to play with them. From this trip, we’ve learnt a lot from these children and we have definitely gotten closer to one another. We all are missing them already…

Precious Children Home

haha...friday was my second time visit to Precious Children home...when the kids saw us, they are getting so happy, some of them still remember our look but counldn't remember our name. i'm agree with wht pohling said.. eventhough junk food are not nutritious, but when the moment kids get junk food from us,they are so happy and cheerful.. it's worth to make the kids happy by just spending each of them a pack of junk food.. i remember when the kids saw weipeng's pepsi, they are getting so excited and everyone is fighting to drink the pepsi...can see from here, the kids are easy to satisfied with just a little thing...compare to us, eventhough we got everything that the kids doesn't have, but we still dun feel satisfied with ur life...when we just reach the home, the kids already ask us how long will we spend time there, and asking us stay longer to accompany them.. i feel that, wht the kids need is not just physical thing, but time and love that we spend and give them.. the kids feel so curious about camera.. when they saw pohling and me take out the camera, the kids are requesting us to let them capture some picture..what i found out is, their photo shooting skill is not bad.. this are some of the pics that take by the kids..

we are playing hide and seek, london bridge with the kids..wei peng even teach the kids to draw and the drawing is so cute.. hehe

really have the fun time with the kids... when we go back, the kids are send off us infront of the gate and request us to visit them more often... hope to visit the home soon... :)
